OUTFIT INSPIRATION FOR DATE NIGHT
Jeans, Biker Jacket, High-Waist Jeans:
There is something about a flat sole that has me wearing this look for a date night where I know we are going to be walking around. Or having an early evening date. I can remove the jacket if it’s warm enough to expose the cute satin camisole top. It makes me wish we lived closer to a winery. My sister and husband live around many and this would be perfect to wear while sipping & chatting, admiring your date and the beautiful view!
Take the Limitations Off Of Yourself and Wear What You Love:
I absolutely loved this outfit. I wore it on a double date to a Japanese restaurant. Its edgy & chic expression is perfect for a girl’s night out or heading to the comedy club. What I would like to point out about this outfit is that initially I was terrified to really own it and wear it out. I debated on changing several times and while I was in my closet humming and hawing what to switch into, our babysitter arrived so I decided to wear it and not be late to meet our friends.
How many times have you had something on that you loved but were afraid of what others would think of you while wearing it? I was being horrible to myself judging all the reasons why I was not worthy to wear this. Afraid someone may think I was showing off, etc. Even though it was the circumstances that kept me from changing in that moment and not my decision to brave, I am grateful it worked out that way. Because I probably would had chickened out. I wore it emotionally insecure most of the night worried what others were thinking…Yet, I worked hard to get out of my head and have a great night with our friends. The lessons I learned that evening were big for me:
a. Don’t let our feelings or concerns of others dictate your value.
b. Clothes are a fun expression of us, but it’s our hearts that ultimately represent us. No matter what, what’s on the inside will come out. Perhaps my insecurities showed that night, but my intentions were to set them aside and be in the moment with Matt and our friends.
c. Stepping outside of your comfort zone is scary and worth it.
d. I learned I often say yes to situations pending on the encouragement of others. I am learning to trust myself and do what makes me happy. Our happiness needs to start from the inside!
Rust Trouser + Crop Top:
This look is perfect for a Steak House or a Lounge date. Go through the drinks menu and choose at least one cocktail you have never tried before along with your favorite appetizer. I usually love to sit and catch up but why not switch things up and play darts or a game of pool?? This look is comfortable perfect whether you are mobile or just needing to sit and unwind.
Rust Trouser + Bodysuit + Leopard Pump
Wear this to Sunday Brunch, strolling in a greenhouse looking at plants with your girlfriend and a coffee or, to an Arts Festival when going to catch a comedic play.
Staple Blouse That Stands the Test of Time:
This one is fun! This is my staple blouse. Its neutral color and drape has flattered me with its shape so it remains in my closet! Pull your favorite blouse out and pair it with your favorite jeans that accentuate your tush! This blouse does not close so I wore a low cut bodysuit underneath for modesty and a bit of edge. I have worn a white tank top under it also. This time I chose black because I wanted to match my shoes. I wore this to our Adult Gaming Center. We usually meet a group of our friends there and have a blast. Basically it is an adult version of Chuckie Cheese, except we get to walk around with our drinks, throw axes & listen to live music! Yes, I am that person who throws axes in heels…I just own it. It’s worth it for me to have a complete look… and I still rank pretty high in our competitions, lol
High Waist Shorts + Crop Top:
Pending on our finicky Canadian fall weather, this outfit could be an option for a fun sunny day at the Pumpkin Patch. Or a cool spring/ summer evening sitting in the backyard with friends.
TIPS FOR WEARING a CROP TOP- Most people dismiss looks with crop tops. Personally I love them. If you have a bit of bloat or muffin top there are ways you can style them and not have your midriff be the center of attention. Wearing them with pants that have a high-waist draws the eye to the smaller part of your waist. If you are concerned with your profile then add a duster, long cardigan, blazer or jacket!
Fabulous Green Pant + Leather Bralette:
(Two looks, with and without jacket)
I created this look simply because I loved it... I have not had a night out yet that suited this outfit. I can guarantee its inspiration is tucked away in my memory so when the night presents itself that matches this look I will pull it out of my closet and rock it!
Do you have items in your closet that you have purchased and they are tucked away waiting for the perfect night that they are suited for?? I always anticipate that night, and feel no shame that they are waiting. It’s always worth it when the moment presents itself and I don’t need to stress at the mall looking for something... It’s already eagerly waiting for me.
Sheer Sequin Top + Jeans, Heels and a Duster:
(Two looks: one with duster on and off)
The sequins are a dead giveaway this outfit is inspiration for your New Year’s Eve outfit. Yet, I encourage you to not just tuck away your sequin pieces in the back of your closet only to pull them out and wear them the night you are waiting for the ball to drop. Wear them anytime!! To a local event… some of you have Lobster Fest every year, or if you are heading to a pub to see your friends band play. As I write this I am inspired to wear this to my next steakhouse date with Matt. The point is I like to pair each item in my closet with at least 4 other items to have lots of options for different looks. This keeps me in the lane of creativity and away from the pressures of fast fashion. I love an over flowing closet of options. I am not a minimalist when it comes to clothes. I like my options and almost always wish I had not donated “that” item because I can reuse it when it rotates back in fashion!
Turtleneck + Boyfriend Jean and Heels:
This is not exclusive to date night apparel. It truly can be worn anytime. There is just something about adding a sassy pair of heels that casually dresses it up for me. If you don’t already have these pieces in your closet then can I suggest you nab them the next time you see them in the store!
TIPS FOR BUYING BOYFRIEND JEANS:
a. Allow time to try a bunch on. Some brands left me with a saggy bum and I’m not about that look. If I am wearing a looser pant, I still want a good fit.
b. If your boyfriend jean of choice has a high-waist then sometimes you need to size down so you don’t have a gap at your lower back. Some pairs I have had to do acrobatics to get into them, but with this cut and most have a lot of stretch they will loosen with wear and likely be your favorite pair.
c. Just a heads up the brands Levi’s and Frank & Oak do not have stretch in some of their jean. I still sized down so it fit my waist but some pairs in the dressing room pinched my hooha so I left them at the store. (Sorry for the TMI, but you need to be in the know!) So be sure to sit down when trying them on so the jeans can express to you their comfort “down-there”! Or leave the tags on and wear them around the house to double check.
d. Random FUN FACT: Did you know boyfriend jeans are just an average pair of baggy jeans but titled with that name because they look like you borrowed a pair of your boyfriend’s jeans.
e. The ideal cut is when the hem hits your ankle so you can wear them with flats. If they are a wee bit too long, don’t hem them, just add a slight roll to create the perfect ankle length!
f. It’s also ideal to pair them with cute boots in the colder months where the hem of you pants meet the top of your chic boot!
g. I cannot reiterate more that shape is important so you don’t look like you are being swallowed by this style!
h. Don’t be intimidated, trust yourself and ask an honest friend to come with you…not to deter you or lie to you but to encourage you to get the pair that looks best. And when you find that perfect match for your shape, buy them in all the tones of jean available!!
