HAIRSCHOOL WAS A FUN RIDE THAT OPENED A LOT OF DOORS
Hair school was a success. I was a natural and SO eager to hone my skill. I had found something I loved. I volunteered in many different fundraisers because the exposure introduced me too many talented people in the industry. One salon crew I met at a color-a-thon for Ronald McDonald House, the chemistry I had with the girls was like a jobs match made in heaven. The color line we were representing was Redken. The main stylists saw my skill and invited me to work part time for them. I was elated. With the education I received from them and the school, I was soaring in opportunities. The coolest opportunity was being invited to be a platform artist to represent Redken at events. BUT, I actually said no to all of this opportunity to follow a boy. I know it seems like a waongh-waaahh moment, lol. I was young and in love. The end of that twist in the story is we broke up. I was devastated but so so grateful it didn’t work out, because I would not be where I am today.
After that I salon-hopped for quite a few years for a lot of reasons. I landed in a chic, polished, strict salon that I thought matched the aesthetic of where I wanted to work. She was very good to me and invested a lot in my craft. I am still so grateful. I then took many breaks to travel and those trips changed my life. I will share those stories in articles to come.
